skyfall

You have probably heard that old canard
"the Eskimos have fifty words for snow"
In fact they manage with about six;
Aput, gana, piqsirpoq, qimuqsuq etc
Far more interesting are the Sami
Reindeer herders from the frozen
Wastes of Finland and Russia;
They have names for every
Conceivable type of snow
And ice;
My favourite is skilzi
Which I am sure you know
Means little bits of ice which
Hang down loosely from a tree
Or a reindeer's underbelly
You may prefer
Ruokna
Guddu
Cahki
Geardni
Skoavdi
Rodda
Oppas
Doalli
Bohkolet

Or
Moarri
Or one of the other
Two hundred words
Which Santa requires
At this time of year
