Dispersal II

she sits by the window
tessellating memories
waiting for a visit but
only the postman comes
bringing urgent offers
from dodgy merchants
and cloying charity scams
the milkman brings milk
each morning but she
pours most of it away
she just likes to hear
his cheery whistle
down the path
the council sent
a woman to check
on her but she asked
such impertinent questions
what is your orientation how
many partners do you have
she showed the woman the door
and now she waits
for a visit
clutching his DFC
in her gnarled hand
